Intel Chipset Design Issue

On 3 January 2011, Intel announced their latest processor, named sandy bridge. This is then followed by motherboard manufacturers who participate melucurkan their latest motherboard that supports the sandy bidge.

But on 31 January 2011 Intel announced that there were design flaws in the cougar point chipset series 6. Cougar Point is the code name for the platform controller hub (PCH) in series 6 chipset for mobile platforms and deskop. Intel announced that the design flaw lies in the transistor 3GB / s PLL Clocking tree which is the control system. Use of chipsets with design flaws that impact real enough in SATA 3Gb / s if you use that port. When used in a prolonged, Dapa design flaw resulted in a loss in performance that led to the error of damage to the SATA port, but this has no effect on SATA 6Gb / s

A Few Important Point

  • Defects are found only on the chipset, so the processor does not exist problem
  • Port problems ranging from port number 2 to 5, not including ports 1 and 2 so on a laptop that uses only 2 port SATA (Hard Drive & Optical Drive) is not affected.
  • Temporary solution is to use ports 7 & 8 that uses Marvell chipset and install the Marvell drivers.
